Why is Wizards of the Coast ending development on Sigil?
At Wizards of the Coast, our goal has always been to create experiences that help you tell incredible stories together, whether around the table, online, or anywhere you gather to play. While Sigil inspired thousands of players and creators, we realized we couldn’t sustain the level of ongoing support or the quality standard you deserve. Ending development allows us to focus our energy on building the best future digital D&D experiences possible, informed by everything we learned from Sigil and your feedback.
When will Sigil shut down?
Sigil will remain available through October 31, 2026.
You can continue to play, host campaigns, and use all features until that date. After October 2026, Sigil’s servers will shut down, and all content created within Sigil will no longer be accessible.
Who was eligible to receive the 6-month subscription credit?
Users who used their paid or trial Master Tier subscription to access Sigil at least once any time between March 1, 2025, and October 23, 2025, at 11:59PM PT, were eligible to receive six months of complimentary Master Tier access.
*If you were an eligible User, you must have clicked the ‘Redeem Now’ link by January 6, 2026, to redeem your free subscription. Now that date has passed, the offer has expired and can no longer be claimed. This complementary subscription has no cash value and may not be exchanged, transferred, or redeemed for other products or services.
What will happen to my subscription?
- If you already have an active Hero Tier or Master Tier subscription, your current subscription will pause during this complimentary period and then resume at its original subscription level and billing cycle once it ends. You will not lose any time on your current subscription, and your billing cycle will not be changed.
- Example: If you have four months left on your Hero Tier subscription when this complimentary Master Tier period ends, the remaining four months of the Hero Tier subscription will resume at that time.
- If you do not have an active subscription, you will be granted this complimentary six-month period, and it will end automatically without any action needed from you. If you want to continue the subscription, you will have to start a new subscription of the tier and billing cycle of your choice.
Can I still play or access my campaigns in Sigil?
Yes. You can continue running and playing your campaigns until the end of October 2026. All current features and tier access will remain unchanged during this period.
Will my Sigil creations be saved or transferred elsewhere?
No. Once Sigil’s servers go offline in October 2026, content created within Sigil will no longer be accessible. We recommend taking screenshots of images you want for posterity and copying any important notes and journal entries outside of Sigil before that time.
What’s happening to customers who pre-ordered the 2024 Core Rulebooks?
If you pre-ordered the 2024 Digital and Physical Core Rulebook Bundle on the D&D Beyond Marketplace, or on the international D&D Store, and received the Sigil-exclusive Gold Dragon Digital Miniature, you were sent an email on January 28th that includes a code to redeem the new Sigil Dragon digital dice set on D&D Beyond as a replacement reward.
Is Wizards of the Coast offering anything to all D&D Beyond users?
Yes! As a thank you for your patience and support, all registered D&D Beyond users now have access to a new Sigil Dragon character sheet backdrop for D&D Beyond.
