I'm experiencing crashes while trying to run Sigil. What should I do?
If you're experiencing crashes while trying to start the client, here are some recommended steps you can take to help resolve the issue:
- Check to see if your computer meets the system requirements listed under the question “What do I need to play Sigil?”
- Updating your video drivers and operating system to the latest version could resolve compatibility issues. Older drivers or updates may have compatibility issues that could be causing the client to crash.
- If you continue to experience issues, please try disabling other programs running in the background and attempt to run Sigil by itself.
We hope those steps will resolve your issue.
I am having problems installing or updating Sigil from the launcher.
If you’re experiencing issues with the launcher, here are some steps you can attempt to troubleshoot the issue.
- Before attempting to run the launcher, ensure there are no other instances of the launcher running in the background. Open Task Manager, right click on any instances of DnDLauncher.exe that are running, and select End Task.
- If the launcher window appears as completely blank or dark, press Ctrl+R with the launcher selected, or move your cursor to the middle of the blank launcher window, right-click, and select ‘Refresh’.
If this does not resolve your issue, let us know what problems you’re experiencing at https://dndbeyond-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/requests/new/ so we can get you up and running as quickly as possible! Please select 'Sigil Help' from the dropdown in order to send us a ticket. That way we can get a description of your error as well as logs that we need in order to help diagnose the issue. To find your logs:
- Open "File Explorer" on your computer. Windows 11 users can find the icon, which resembles a folder, at the bottom of your screen.
- On the left-hand panel of the File Explorer window, scroll down to find your "C:" drive. Select it to view the contents of the drive.
- Open the "Users" directory, then the directory with your username.
- Click the address bar near the top of the File Explorer window and add "\AppData" to the path shown. Then press "Enter". The path should then look something like "c:\Users\YOUR-USERNAME\AppData".
- Open the "Local" directory, then find and open the "DnDLauncher" directory.
- All the files in this directory that have names beginning with "DnDLauncher" are log files from the launcher. Each file’s name ends with the date the log was written. For example, DnDLauncher-20250117.log is a launcher log written on January 17th, 2025. Please include all log files created on the date(s) the problem occurred when reaching out to us for help.

I'm a free user or Hero Tier subscriber. What can I do with Sigil?
All registered users can play the base experience, which includes a premade intro adventure, a starter builder kit, and the ability to join multiplayer games hosted by Master Tier subscribers.
I'm a Master Tier subscriber. What can I do with Sigil?
Master Tier subscribers have access to both base experience features and an expanded experience, like in Maps, D&D Beyond’s 2D VTT. This expanded experience includes the ability to create, host, and share multiplayer games and maps as well as the ability to unlock additional builder kits, custom mini outfits, and unpainted minis.
Why can't I host a multiplayer session?
As in Maps, D&D Beyond's 2D VTT, only Master Tier subscribers can host multiplayer sessions in Sigil. If you don't have a Master Tier subscription, you can still join multiplayer sessions hosted by Master Tier subscribers.
How is Sigil different from Maps?
Sigil is an immersive 3D virtual tabletop powered by Unreal Engine 5 that allows players to build 3D dungeons, environments, and maps. Maps is a 2D virtual tabletop that streamlines D&D play with automated rules and helpful UI, allowing DMs and players to start playing right away.
By providing both Maps (2D VTT) and Sigil (3D VTT), we're allowing fans to choose how and where they want to play D&D, whether that's on D&D Beyond with Maps, in 3D worlds with Sigil, with pen and paper, or all of the above!
