Additional Content on the Character Sheet

NOTE

With the recent updates to the character builder, we are working to update our documentation. The Article below has not yet been updated, so there may be some differences from the current experience.

Our digital character sheets include many options for free for users to create characters using materials available in the Basic Rules. Any content not included in the Basic Rules will only be available to use on your character sheet if you have access to it on D&D beyond. There are two ways for you to get access to more options:

  1. Purchase the material through the D&D Beyond Store.
  2. Create a character in a Campaign that has Content Sharing enabled, and another member of the campaign owns the content.
    • Note: Only characters associated with a campaign with content sharing enabled will have access to the content in the Character Sheet. If you create a character outside of the campaign, shared options will not be available.

If you should have access to the content, and it’s still not visible on your character sheet, it may be due  to your Content Category Settings. You can find help with toggling those here: Enabling Content Categories for your Character Sheet

How do I know what Book contains the content I want to add?

The easiest way to find out what product contains a specific piece of content is outlined below to use the Search Everything… bar at the top of any page on the D&D Beyond website. The full steps are outlined below:

    1. Type the name of the item you are looking for in the search bar and submit. The system will suggest potential items that are similar to what you’ve typed, which you can click to search those terms instead.

  2. On the search results page, you can click on the entry’s name to go to the entries page where you can see it’s full details:

  3. If you do not currently have access to the item, you will be redirected to the Store page for the book that contains it. You can then either purchase the entire book, or purchase the items you want individually under “Additional Purchase Options.”
  4. If you do have access to the content, you will be taken to the entry’s page, where you can see it’s source at the bottom of the entry:
